I Didn’t Put Nothin’ Up

I keep hearing from people objecting to how current events are forcing them to live their lives in ways they don’t like, ways very different from how they had structured them in recent years. This petulant obliviousness to the tacit assumptions around which they have structured their lives in unintentionally pro-cyclical/risk ways is striking, like something from Cormac McCarthy in No Country for Old Men:

         I didn't put nothin' up.

Yes you did. You been putting it up
your whole life. You just didn’t
         know it.
